![]() ![]() I guess it does come down to getting the right mods, it's just a bit frustrating because i know the current raid types is the dev's answer to killboxes, and it feels a bit lazy. ![]() :) You could also opt to use that freestanding wall as a light defensive position and a couple of pawns could be firing from there as the rest move inside through the door. :)) And, when fleeing, your pawn will be able to get cover from that freestanding wall as they make their way through that slowly opening door. (Nullifying the ability for an enemy to use their assets is a pro-move. And, no attack into that doorway can be two-ranks deep, limiting the chances that more ranged weapons can be brought to bear on any defenders defending that doorway. The "_" are wall segments, the "," empty space, the "" a common doorway.īy placing a freestanding, short, wall in front of your doors and facing a likely direction of attack, you limit the total number of attackers that can directly attack into that doorway to three. This is also a good idea, when you can build it: (Should be a default arrangement for doorways on any building that opens to the outside and is on the periphery of your base.) They can use the corner area for cover, of course, so. The enemy can also not use that single block as cover from which they can then fire at the doorway. That "x" could be a single wall segment placed there that your fleeing pawn can duck behind it on their way around that corner to the door. If the above is "|" and "_" are walls and the "" is a door, while "." are just empty space, and the enemy is likely to chase your pawn moving from the South-West, around the corner, and to that door then: Your pawns will be moving according to your commands, theirs will be moving to attack or reach/destroy/steal their goal. Try to work these in when you can if you're worried about how vulnerable a pawn might be in a certain area of your base. PS: Little things - One tactically placed block can save a pawn's life. I'll have to update my knowledge and am just now engaging with the latest patch.) (There have been some changes to Raids and their objectives, IIRC. That may be exactly what you have to do, but it's better than dying without having a choice on what ground your corpse will fertilize. And, hopefully, you've got a good defensive position to fire from, too.Ī Safe-Room is a good idea, but just keep in mind that you're choosing a place to die. Make them move into your new fields of fire to do that. So, if you leave that "cool bunker" you built, they're only going to be using it temporarily and you can force them to leave it by just moving to some other place they can't fire at from within that "cool bunker." :) And, if they have to round a corner to get your new position in range. :) (Aside from when a normal raid is "preparing.") Plan that any position they're likely to take will be abandoned by them as they move. They will and must move to their objective and or "attack enemies." You have options they do not. One thing to keep in mind - No Raider is going to take up a static position. You can build many areas by paying attention to "defense." You can avoid trapping your pawns in chokepoints and dead-ends, placing traps in areas Drop-Pod raiders might go, making internal spaces so that you could get a group of pawns there to defend the hallway that Raiders may use, etc. Traps inside your colony spaces are good, too. These very same internal defensive positions can serve as fall-back points when faced with normal raids, too, so they're not wasted constructions. You need internal defenses that pawns can scramble to as needed. :)įor the normal, vanilla, approach to Drop-Pod Raids - Defense-in-depth is the way to go. Load up on medieval mods, especially those that customize raiders/events. There's nothing at all wrong with doing that. You really need to tailor mods and difficulty settings to your chosen playstyle in that case.
